Emerging from the ashes of Los Angeles's "Paisley Underground" movement, Mazzy Star was formed by Rain Parade founder David Roback and Hope Sandoval, whose haunting vocals became the centerpiece of their ethereal sound. Their debut album, She Hangs Brightly, blends dreamy art-rock with psychedelic Americana, creating a timeless atmosphere of melancholy and beauty. Sandoval's voice glides over Roback's shimmering guitar work, ranging from delicate arpeggios to bluesy slides, evoking comparisons to The Doors on the title track and delivering standout moments on "Before I Sleep" and "Ghost Highway."
