Bryan Singer réalise et co-écrit cette adaptation sur grand écran de la bande dessinée Marvel de longue date. Les mutants Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) et Magneto (Ian McKellen) sont d'anciens amis, mais semblent prêts à devenir des ennemis mortels lorsque le sénateur fasciste américain Robert Frank Kelly (Bruce Davison) appelle à l'enregistrement de tous les humains dotés de pouvoirs anormaux.
