Laura Misch - Lithic [CD]

Laura Misch - Lithic (CD)

Laura Misch presents Lithic, an immersive new album that serves as a sonic journey through the elements of stone, water, wind, and lightning. Building upon the ethereal soundscapes of Sample of Sky and the intimate textures of Sample of Earth, Misch crafts music inspired by natural environments like caves, quarries, rock pools, and coastal edges.

This deeply personal and feminine record merges field recordings with instrumentation including saxophone, voice, electronics, strings, and percussion. The resulting rhythms and textures feel both primordial and contemporary, utilizing unique sound sources such as struck slate, ancient lithophones, hydrophones, and geophones.

Lithic is a profound meditation on nature, aging, and connection, capturing the dialogue between human experience and the more-than-human world across locations including London, Cornwall, Hydra, and Dungeness. The album draws conceptual foundations from deep listening practices, eco-acoustics, and geology, inspired by thinkers such as Barbara Hepworth, Pauline Oliveros, and Annea Lockwood. Misch considers sound itself as an ancient, transformative material, exploring the weathered lines of aging etched upon both rockfaces and faces.
