Wie Albarns jüngstes Solowerk erforscht es das widersprüchliche Gefühl des Staunens und der Entfremdung des Fernreisenden. „The Magic Whip“ ist Blurs überraschendes Reunion-Album – die größte Überraschung besteht darin, wie mühelos es die Essenz der Band beibehält und gleichzeitig ihren Sound in unbekanntes Terrain treibt. Mit wenigen Ausnahmen – dem verspielten „Ong Ong“ und dem Zeitsprung „Lonesome Street“ von 1994 – ist das Album eine stimmungsvolle Angelegenheit, die die brodelnde Spannung späterer Blur-Alben einfängt. Great website – Item in Perfect Condition, Worth the Wait
