Viele Bands investieren so viel Fantasie und Energie in ihr erstes Album, dass die Grenzen ihres Talents bei der Gestaltung eines Nachfolgers nur allzu offensichtlich werden. Nicht 10CC, deren Veröffentlichung „Sheet Music“ im Juni 1974 sie mit großem Erfolg auf die musikalische Landkarte brachte. Wie sein Vorgänger „10CC“ enthielt es eine Auswahl flotter Singles, obwohl der Chart-Misserfolg von „The Worst Band In The World“ bei der Veröffentlichung vor dem Album ein Beweis dafür war, dass es für die breite Öffentlichkeit zu clever war. „…Worst Band…“ war vielleicht die beste Sammlung von Insider-Witzen aus der Musikbranche seit „Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)“ der Raspberries, aber sie erlitt das gleiche Flop-Schicksal. Interessanterweise arbeitete McCartney zu der Zeit, als „Sheet Music“ aufgenommen wurde, in den Strawberry Studios in Stockport. In Strawberry trafen sich Gitarrist Eric Stewart und Gouldman zum ersten Mal, und laut Gouldman war das Unternehmen damals 24 Stunden am Tag im Einsatz. „Das gab dem Studio eine Atmosphäre, die es noch nie zuvor gegeben hatte.“ Da lag etwas in der Luft, und auf „Noten“ ist etwas aufgetaucht, das wir nie wieder festgehalten haben.“

Great website – Item in Perfect Condition, Worth the Wait
