Ye Vagabonds veröffentlichen ihr zweites Album für das Label River Lea von Rough Trade. Nine Waves wurde in den Dublin Mountains in den Hellfire Studios aufgenommen und von John „Spud“ Murphy produziert (zu dessen früheren Arbeiten Platten von Black Midi, Lankum und Caroline gehören). Das Album enthält 11 Titel mit traditionellen und originellen Liedern und Melodien. „Nine Waves“ folgt auf die eigenständige Single „I'm A Rover“ des Duos, die ihnen einen RTE Radio One Folk Award für den besten traditionellen Folk-Track einbrachte. Ye Vagabonds wurden bei der Zeremonie 2021 auch zum zweiten Mal zur besten Folk-Gruppe gekürt, wo sie den Rekord für die meisten ausgezeichneten Künstler halten.
Zu den brüderlichen Harmonien und multiinstrumentalen Fähigkeiten von Diarmuid und Brían Mac Gloinn gesellten sich auf Nine Waves Kate Ellis (Cello) und Caimin Gilmore (Kontrabass), beide Mitglieder der irischen zeitgenössischen klassischen Gruppe Crash Ensemble, und Ryan Hargadon (Anna Mieke). , Rachael Lavelle, Kojaque) am Klavier und Saxophon.
Die Platte enthält außerdem eine Konzertina von Cormac Begley und ein Harmonium von Alain McFadden, einem regelmäßigen Tourmitglied von Ye Vagabonds.
