Stirb langsam, diese Bösewichte, angeführt von Alan Rickman mit der samtenen Stimme, übernehmen die Kontrolle über ein Hochhaus in Los Angeles, in dem Willis‘ New Yorker Polizist zu Besuch ist. Der Reiz des Films liegt sowohl im Anblick eines barfüßigen Sterblichen, der durch die Eingeweide eines modernen Büroturms rennt, als auch in den zahlreichen Kampfsequenzen und der Bindung, die der Held zu einem Streifenpolizisten in LA aufbaut. Bonnie Bedelia spielt Willis' Frau, Hart Bochner ist gut als dreister Geisel, der versucht, seinen Weg in die Freiheit zu finden, Alexander Godunov gibt einen glaubwürdigen Killer mit tödlichen Füßen ab und William Atherton ist als geschäftiger Reporter schleimig. Dieser Film wurde von John McTiernan außergewöhnlich gut inszeniert.
