„Damned Damned Damned“ war eines der ersten veröffentlichten Punk-Alben und bleibt ein zertifizierter Punk-Klassiker. Im Gegensatz zu den Werken von Zeitgenossen wie Adverts und Slaughter and the Dogs klingt dieses atemberaubende Debüt heute genauso frisch und vital wie 1977. Das Album beginnt mit dem sengenden „Neat Neat Neat“, einem tosenden Schlag von Kreissägengitarren, krachendes Schlagzeug und der höhnische Gesang von Dave Vanian, der zu den 20 besten Punksongs der Ära zählt. Niemals so politisch wie die Sex Pistols oder The Clash, waren The Damned die Original-Cartoon-Punks, die sich fröhlich und mit rücksichtsloser Hingabe fröhliche Songs wie „Born to Kill“, „Stab Your Back“ und „Fish“ durchspielten und dabei Punkrock spielten die einfache Freude, laute, aggressive Musik zu machen. Weitere Highlights sind die hymnische Hitsingle der Gruppe „New Rose“, ein kraftvoller Track, der von einem Monsterriff des Gitarristen Brian James angetrieben wird, und eine großartige Interpretation von „I Feel Alright“ der Stooges. Produziert von Nick Lowe (der angeblich die Originalaufnahmen beschleunigt hat, um The Damned einen „punkigeren“ Sound zu verleihen), ist „Damned Damned Damned“ ein unverzichtbares Album.
