Im Jahr 1990 trat Eric Clapton 18 Abende lang an einem seiner Lieblingsorte auf – der berühmten Royal Albert Hall in London. Während der 18 Shows trat Clapton in drei verschiedenen Besetzungen auf: einer Rockband, einer Bluesband und einem Orchester. Eric kehrte 1991 mit denselben drei Besetzungen an denselben Veranstaltungsort zurück und spielte weitere 24 Shows. Der enorme Probenaufwand für Auftritte in drei deutlich unterschiedlichen Genres wurde durch die Besetzung der Rockshows mit 4, 9 oder 13 Bandmitgliedern noch anspruchsvoller.
