Carlo Martellis Einakter „Der Fluch des Christoph Kolumbus“ wurde 1992 von der Shropshire County School of Music anlässlich des 500. Jahrestages der Entdeckung Amerikas in Auftrag gegeben. Die komplette Erstaufnahme erfolgt nun durch professionelle Kräfte auf dem eigenen Label des 83-jährigen Komponisten, Carma. Ronald Corp dirigiert die Royal Ballet Sinfonia und zur Besetzung gehören Sam Evans in der Titelrolle, Catherine Hooper als Königin Isabella, Lesley-Jane Rogers, die die Rollen von The Caretaker und einem Fregattvogel singt, Finisterre, Olivia Robinson als weiterer Fregattvogel Dogger, und John Savournin als The VIP. Sam Evans ist außerdem Leiter von Essential Voices, der Gruppe junger professioneller Sänger, die den Chor bilden. Der Autor der Broschüre, Paul Conway, bemerkt: „Der Mythos von Kolumbus als visionärem Entdecker wird durch Chris Eldon Lees witziges und witziges Libretto, das den Abenteurer als rücksichtslosen und zynischen Plünderer entlarvt, gründlich dekonstruiert Oper wurzelt in der Wahrheit.“ Die im März 2018 in den Angel Studios in London aufgenommene Opernaufnahme wurde von Philip Lane produziert.
