Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on September 12, 1975 by Harvest Records in the United Kingdom and a day later by Columbia Records in the United States. Inspired by material composed during European tours, the album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. The record features a powerful critique of the music industry, themes of alienation, and the iconic nine-part composition "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. Led by Roger Waters' conceptual vision, the album uses studio effects, synthesizers, and guest vocalists, including Roy Harper on "Have a Cigar" and The Blackberries on backing vocals for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." A cornerstone of progressive rock, the album has been celebrated as one of the greatest works in rock history.
