Standing on the Corner - SOTC II [CD]

SOTC II is a 15-track album by Brooklyn music group Standing on the Corner, for listeners drawn to restless, genre-crossing music. Its sound moves between fried psychedelia, rock ’n’ roll, no-wave rap, R&B and post-hardcore.

Rooted in cultural exchange between the USA, Puerto Rico and Africa, Standing on the Corner brings soul, punk, salsa, doo-wop, jazz, funk, avant-garde and rap traditions together through a New York City sensibility. The album channels the group’s interest in ephemerality, lived experience and communal memory into a tense record shaped by instability, alienation and refusal.

Recorded by bandleader Gio Escobar with core collaborators Jack “Wacko” Nolan, Buz “Man-man” Donald and Clérida “Ca$h Clay” Eltimé, the album features The Warlockettes, Ladybug Mecca, Styles P, Bubba Dupree, Claudette Ortiz, Sonia Sanchez, Solange and Danny Brown.
