Mac DeMarco, the 26-year-old artist born MacBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco, presents his third full-length album, This Old Dog, marking his first studio release since 2014’s Salad Days. Released on May 5th, 2017, via Captured Tracks, this deeply personal record reflects a shift in both sound and perspective. Inspired by a transitional period following his move from Queens to Los Angeles, DeMarco allowed the songs to mature over time, resulting in a more introspective and nuanced body of work. The album opens with two lead singles, "My Old Man" and "This Old Dog," which immediately showcase a new sonic direction blending acoustic guitar, synthesizers, and drum machines. While rooted in a synth-based approach, the album maintains an intimate, 'unplugged' feel, with only one track featuring electric guitar.
