COLIN STEELE - STRAMASH II [audioCD]

Eighteen years after the groundbreaking original, Colin Steele returns with Stramash II, a highly anticipated sequel that continues to fuse the melodic soul of Scottish folk music with the harmonic sophistication and improvisational fire of jazz. The original 2008 release earned universal critical acclaim, hailed by The Independent as 'the best amalgam of bop and folk yet.' Steele reclaims the helm with his trailblazing ten-piece ensemble to deliver deeply personal and strikingly beautiful compositions where folk-rooted melodies seamlessly intertwine with jazz harmony, groove, and improvisation.

Stramash II builds upon the fertile ground between Scottish folk traditions and contemporary jazz, a space now gaining wider recognition thanks to newer artists like pianist Fergus McCreadie. This album is cinematic, evocative, and utterly distinctive. Tracks like 'Elgin Laddie' showcase this fusion, beginning with the lilt of a reel before incorporating a jazz rhythm section and horns reminiscent of 1930s Harlem.
