Arvo Pärt - Alina [Vinyl]

Experience the seminal ECM New Series album Alina by Arvo Pärt on vinyl for the very first time. This 1995 recording, intensely focused on the composer's breakthrough works 'Fur Alina' and 'Spiegel im Spiegel,' holds a special place in both the Estonian composer's discography and the ECM catalogue.

Recorded in Frankfurt's Festeburgkirche, this session brought together Arvo Pärt and producer Manfred Eicher with four insightful musicians: violinist Vladimir Spivakov, cellist Dietmar Schwalke, and pianists Alexander Malter and Sergej Bezrodny. 'Fur Alina,' composed in 1976, is noted as a pivotal work, symbolically marking the starting point for compositions that followed.

Arvo Pärt once described his music by comparing it to white light containing all colors, which the listener's spirit acts as a prism to divide. Contemporary reviewers noted that carefully following the flow of Alina could heighten perception. Gramophone praised the album as 'the voice of internal exile, self-communing and highly personal but wholly accessible for anyone willing to listen,' while cautioning that the experience might make subsequent listening to other sounds seem like noise.
