Te Deum by The James Taylor Quartet

Keyboard maestro James Taylor celebrates his 40th year leading The James Taylor Quartet by re-signing with his original label, Acid Jazz, and embarking on radical new projects. Following his classical album ‘Shadows and Dreams,’ this remarkable new release, ‘Te Deum,’ sets the ancient, 4th-century Christian text to intense jazz, funk, and Latin grooves.

This album features the James Taylor Quartet collaborating with the children of the Benenden Chapel Choir, a guest horn section, and legendary Acid Jazz percussionist Snowboy. The music explores diverse influences, including the lead track ‘Have Mercy On Us’ which mixes Brazilian samba with Gregorian chants, and ‘The Comforter,’ which evokes a Donald Byrd with voices Blue Note Records experiment. The radio favourite from last year, ‘Wildflower,’ blends bossa nova with sunshine pop harmonies.
