Melissokomiki Dodecanese was founded in Rhodes by Nikos Melissourgos and Nikos Retsas in the late 20th century, inspired by the timeless value of bee products in human nutrition. Motivated by the high-quality honey and rich beekeeping tradition of the islands, the company partnered closely with local beekeepers from the start. They established a honey laboratory and implemented certified quality systems for packaging various Dodecanese honey varieties. They also created a separate production unit for Melekouni, a traditional Rhodes treat. In 2007, they introduced a new production line for Melekouni and honey bars, earning a trusted spot on grocery shelves and in consumers’ hearts.
