Curio Curio - Curio Curio [CD]

Curio Curio presents an uplifting, heartfelt Brazilian MPB-groove project shaped by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. This album is the result of an opportune encounter between Rio-born, Austria-based singer and actress Luiza Monteiro and German producer Dustin Braun. Their sonic vision is described as 'not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic'.

This modern fusion draws inspiration from artists like Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor, as well as Say She She and Bala Desejo, charting a unique course. The music celebrates freedom, movement, love, and life, interwoven with introspective moments. The album explores themes of identity, culture, and existence, particularly from the perspective of a Brazilian living in Europe, questioning where one belongs when home becomes plural. Tracks like 'Amor Doente' and 'Mar sem Dar Pe' delve into relationships that resist clarity, while 'Menina Passarinho' captures the challenges of committing to music as a path.

Braun's production employs analogue techniques, tape, ribbon microphones, and live ensemble recording to create a tactile quality. Highlights include 'Bem Querer', which is built on an authentic samba street vibe.
