Luis Buñuel's Palme d'Or winning masterpiece, Viridiana, is a brilliant and controversial satire that remains powerful today. The story follows Viridiana (Silvia Pinal), who is about to take her final vows as a nun. After her uncle, obsessed with her, tricks her into believing she has been defiled, he commits suicide and leaves his estate to her. Viridiana abandons her path to become a nun and attempts to lead a morally pure life by converting the mansion into a shelter for vagrants. This film marked the beginning of legendary collaborations between Buñuel and star Silvia Pinal.
