The latest vinyl release from Mull Historical Society, In My Mind There's A Photograph, continues the project's exploration of literature and storytelling. Following the success of In My Mind There's A Room, Colin MacIntyre once again draws inspiration from the literary world, featuring lyrical contributions from world-leading authors centered around a single significant photograph to each writer.

This album shines a light on themes of hope, empathy, and understanding, traversing global stories from the impact of Gaza and 9/11 to tales originating in Inverness, Botswana, China, and Glasgow. As an award-winning author himself, MacIntyre beautifully arranges these narratives into song.

The record features lyrical contributions from best-sellers and award-winners including Irvine Welsh, Ali Smith, Len Pennie, Alexander McCall Smith, Jehan Bseiso, Louise Welsh, Irenosen Okojie, Paul Lynch, Colum McCann, Yiyun Lee, Alan Johnson, and Dan Richards. The songs explore themes of childhood, place, identity, memory, family, and language.

All songs were written by Colin MacIntyre and the contributing authors. The album was arranged and produced by Colin MacIntyre and recorded on the Isle of Mull by Gordon Maclean. It also includes a guest appearance from the London African Gospel Choir.

Colin MacIntyre notes that the project involved stepping into the authors' photographs, prompting reflection on how one person's image of war can be another's image of home, all stemming from the universal theme of a photograph. He describes the process as bringing his two creative worlds—music and writing—together, discovering they are fundamentally the same: storytelling.
