Allah-Las - Allah-Las [CD]

Allah-Las’ self-titled debut album is a CD for listeners drawn to the band’s guitar-led, psychedelic sound. It includes “Long Journey”, the song that bookends the album.

The band formed in Los Angeles after its members met while working at a record store, and began gigging around the city in 2008. Their songs bring together crystalline guitar and slow-moving drums, with influences that recall Mick Jagger and Arthur Lee.

Recorded three years after the band began gigging, the album offers a take on California’s strange, ancient-modern fringe. Its psychedelic character comes through in the way the songs seem to stretch out, rather than relying on effects or elaborate guitar playing.
