"Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1" features twelve newly recorded acoustic versions of classic songs from Richard Ashcroft's back catalogue, spanning both his solo career and his time with The Verve. Conceived after lockdown, this project brought together a close-knit community of musicians and old friends, reimagining beloved tracks with fresh emotional depth. Some arrangements remain timeless, highlighting the maturity and empathy in Ashcroft's vocals, while others are transformed through stripped-back instrumentation. Produced by Richard Ashcroft and Chris Potter, the album blends his regular live band with an array of distinguished collaborators. Wil Malone's string arrangements were recorded at Abbey Road Studios, adding cinematic depth to the record. Featured performers include Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers) on piano, Roddy Bloomfield leading the brass section, and Steve Wyreman (Leon Bridges, Vic Mensa) on acoustic guitar and backing vocals.
