Bright and crisp flavours of pear, melon, citrus and green apple are balanced by subtle hints of toasty oak and vanilla from barrel aging in this Estate Grown Morning Fog Chardonnay. Named for the morning coastal fog pushed by Pacific wind streams into the San Francisco Bay and drawn inland by Livermore Valley’s unique East-West orientation, this wine reflects the region’s ideal climate for growing balanced Chardonnay. Founded in 1883, Wente Vineyards is the oldest continuously operated, family-owned winery in America and is recognized as 'California’s First Family of Chardonnay' for producing the state’s first varietally labelled Chardonnay in 1936. Nearly 80% of California’s Chardonnay vineyards are planted with the Wente clone, which originated from their estate.

Fermented in 50% neutral American oak barrels and 50% stainless steel tanks, the wine preserves vibrant fruit character while gaining creamy texture and mouthfeel. The barrel-fermented portion was aged sur lie for five months with monthly batonnage, enhancing complexity and texture. Half of the stainless steel portion was aged on lees for five months; the other half was racked clean to maintain freshness. According to fifth-generation winemaker Karl D. Wente, 'Morning Fog Chardonnay is a great expression of Livermore Valley Chardonnay, with diverse alluvial fans of soil consistently creating Chardonnay with beautiful and lingering minerality, which coupled with the natural acidity from the long and cool growing season, creates a beautifully balanced wine.'
