The label début of Exclusive Chandos Artist Laura van der Heijden explores the rich musical heritage of Bohemia. Born in England to Dutch-Swiss parents, Laura has already achieved remarkable accolades, including winning the BBC Young Musician competition at age fifteen, the Edison Klassiek Award in 2018 for her début album, and BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer Award in 2019. This album features her collaboration with pianist Jâms Coleman, whom she first met in 2017 and was captivated by his sensitive musicianship and tonal colors. Their first concert together in summer 2018 included Janáček’s Pohádka, a piece that deeply resonated with both artists. The Czech word "Pohádka" translates loosely as "A Tale," and the album centers on storytelling through music, drawing from ancient folk tales passed across generations and regions.
