International Masters Tomoko Fuse and John Montroll at Dover
Tomoko Fuse first came across origami when she was seven years old; she began making paper models during a stay in hospital. In around 1980, well ahead of her time, she became so passionately dedicated to making origami models, using several sheets folded separately, that she earned the nickname “the queen of modular origami”.
John Montroll was four when a Japanese neighbor taught him origami. “Since I started as a child, "creating" was natural. Whatever I wanted to fold, I would make up. There was nothing great about my models, but I enjoyed exploring and found there was no end. In time, my work evolved as I discovered more techniques, and also philosophies, in the quality of origami. Now I can say that developing new, theme-related ideas and writing books gives me inspiration.” John Montroll
