„Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1“ enthält zwölf neu aufgenommene Akustikversionen klassischer Songs aus Richard Ashcrofts Backkatalog, die sowohl seine Solokarriere als auch seine Zeit mit The Verve umfassen. Dieses nach dem Lockdown konzipierte Projekt brachte eine eng verbundene Gemeinschaft von Musikern und alten Freunden zusammen, die beliebte Stücke mit frischer emotionaler Tiefe neu interpretierten. Einige Arrangements bleiben zeitlos und unterstreichen die Reife und Empathie in Ashcrofts Gesang, während andere durch reduzierte Instrumentierung eine neue Note erhalten. Das von Richard Ashcroft und Chris Potter produzierte Album vereint seine reguläre Live-Band mit einer Reihe angesehener Kollaborateure. Wil Malones Streicherarrangements wurden in den Abbey Road Studios aufgenommen und verleihen der Platte filmische Tiefe. Mitwirkende Künstler sind Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers) am Klavier, Roddy Bloomfield als Leiter der Blechbläser und Steve Wyreman (Leon Bridges, Vic Mensa) an der Akustikgitarre und als Backgroundsänger.
