Quartet Records proudly presents a newly recorded release of the classic film score for THE IPCRESS FILE, featuring the unforgettable music of five-time Oscar-winning composer John Barry. This release is the third devoted to John Barry's work by Quartet Records, following Séance on a Wet Afternoon. John Barry composed this memorable score during one of the most prolific periods of his career, seeking a unique sound to distinguish the world of real-life British spies from the fantasy of James Bond.
Significance of the ScoreThe 1965 film, directed by Sidney J. Furie, starred Michael Caine in his first leading role as spy Harry Palmer. Barry's score is distinguished by an iconic, jazz-flavored main theme highlighted by a cimbalom soloist, an instrument he felt was ideal for the Cold War backdrop of the movie.
Content OverviewWhile the original Decca album featured variations, arrangements, and jazz improvisations on the main theme, John Barry wrote nearly 50 minutes of original music for IPCRESS. Only 17 minutes were included on the initial album. This new recording allows listeners to experience approximately 35 minutes of previously unreleased material alongside the original selections.
Key FeaturesThis CD offers an essential listening experience for fans of John Barry and iconic British cinema scores.
