MONO delivers Snowdrop, an album born from profound grief and transformed into an extraordinary sense of gratitude following the loss of their longtime production partner, Steve Albini. Recorded in Albini’s own Electrical Audio studios, this release captures the band channeling shock and sadness into hope and wonder, finding renewed focus in the unknown.
The Creation of SnowdropAfter the passing of Steve Albini, who produced their previous album OATH, MONO faced uncertainty. They enlisted Brad Wood (known for work with Touché Amoré, The Smashing Pumpkins) to record at Electrical Audio in September 2025. Working alongside conductor Chad McCullough, the band utilized an 8-piece choir and a 10-piece orchestra across the eight massive compositions that define this record.
Sound and FeelMixed by Wood at his Seagrass home studio in Los Angeles, Snowdrop feels both intimate and enveloping. The album carries an extra weight, reflecting the history of the space where MONO created much of their 25-year catalog. It is a poignant appreciation for a life well spent with a dear friend, marking a transformation of heartache into forward-looking artistry.
Key Album HighlightsSnowdrop stands as a testament to resilience, transforming deep personal loss into a powerful, hopeful musical statement within the Alternative Rock landscape.
