Svart Records continues the reissue series dedicated to the true doom metal legends from Indiana, The Gates of Slumber, with the vinyl release of their early EP, Like a Plague Upon the Land. Originally a 2005 release, this hard-hitting fan favorite is finally available on vinyl for the first time, capturing the raw essence of the genre.
This EP is heavily rooted in 70s rock-influenced doom, delivering a sound that is traditional, slow, and heavy, drawing clear comparisons to heavyweights like Reverend Bizarre and Saint Vitus. The Gates of Slumber, formed by Karl Simon in 1998, showcases the foundational sound that established them as a significant force in heavy metal.
Key HighlightsThe Gates of Slumber's history includes the Blood Encrusted Deth Axe demo recorded around 2001, featuring Jamie Walters (Boulder, Midnight) on drums and bass. Jason McCash later took over bass duties in 2003, remaining a long-time member until 2014. After a hiatus, the band reformed in 2019 with original drummer Chuck Brown and Steve Janiak on bass, leading to their self-titled album release in 2024.
Specifications OverviewThis release is presented on vinyl (lp_record) and manufactured by Svart Records. The primary language associated with the content is English. The physical dimensions of the packaging are 315x4x315mm, with the record weighing 200 g.
Experience this essential piece of doom metal history, capturing The Gates of Slumber at an early, potent stage of their career.
