Cluster - Zuckerzeit

Released in 1974, Zuckerzeit represents a pivotal moment in Cluster's musical evolution. This album introduced shorter song formats and a more structured rhythmic foundation, distinguishing it from their earlier, more ambient works. The integration of drum machines and sequenced patterns, developed in collaboration with Michael Rother and under independent production conditions, led to a more direct and accessible sound without sacrificing the band's signature focus on texture and tone. This standard edition CD makes this influential album available again.

In 1974, Cluster, comprised of Moebius and Roedelius, transitioned from the bustling city of Berlin to the tranquil countryside of Forst on the river Weser. This move, coupled with the formation of the band Harmonia, the establishment of their own studio, and the acquisition of new equipment, significantly influenced their musical direction. Zuckerzeit, meaning 'sugar era,' marked a revolution for the duo. While technically containing two distinct mini solo albums by Moebius and Roedelius, the consistent use of an analogue rhythm machine provided a unifying element across the tracks, showcasing two different yet complementary musical attitudes.
