Explore the raw, foundational sound of the U.K. post-punk scene with this limited edition vinyl release of Warsaw, the precursor to the highly acclaimed band Joy Division. Formed in Manchester in the late 1970s, the group featured Ian Curtis on vocals, Bernard Albrecht (aka Sumner, aka Dicken) on guitar, Peter Hook on bass, and Stephen Morris on drums. The band took its name from the David Bowie-Brian Eno composition, 'Warszawa'. This pressing captures early, essential recordings from the band before their major evolution.
Historical Significance & ContentThis album features recordings that document the band's development. The first eleven tracks presented here result from a recording session that took place in early May of 1978. Rehearsals leading up to this session introduced two new songs to the repertoire: 'Interzone' and 'Transmission.' 'Interzone' was built upon the backing track of 'Keep On Keepin' On,' while 'Transmission' was written during the final week of rehearsals, with the first verse containing a quotation from Alistair Crowley's The Book Of Thoth. These recordings offer interesting renditions of songs that would later become famous.
Bonus MaterialIncluded are 5 bonus tracks which are demos cut by the group at Pennine Studios in Manchester on July 18, 1977, featuring Steve Brotherdale on drums.
Key Features/BenefitsThis essential piece of post-punk history, originating from the Netherlands, is pressed onto high-quality 180 gm coloured vinyl, making it a standout addition for any serious rock music enthusiast.
