M. Geddes Gengras returns to Hausu Mountain with Guest List, his fourth release on the label and the first to be issued on vinyl. Known for his wide-ranging, synth-focused music over nearly two decades, Gengras weaves his own electronics and synths into a dense tapestry of contrasting genres and ideas, animated by an enormous cast of collaborators.
This album showcases Gengras composing his most ambitious song cycle to date. He channels sonic details from his wide circle of friends, broadening his expression to create the most communal and personal program in his extensive catalog. Collaborators include Greg Fox, whose drum performances are featured, Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) with ecstatic guitar explorations, and Christina Carter (Charalambides) providing soaring vocalizations, among many others.
Artist BackgroundM. Geddes Gengras is a composer and multi-instrumentalist with a vast catalog of solo and collaborative work. He has been part of influential experimental groups such as Sun Araw, Pocahaunted, Robedoor, and Akron/Family. He also blurs the boundaries of dub and electronic music under Duppy Gun Productions with Cameron Stallones of Sun Araw and various Jamaican artists. His previous solo works have appeared on labels including Room40, Leaving Records, Holy Mountain, and Umor Rex.
Album Context on Hausu MountainGuest List follows Gengras's previous Hausu Mountain releases, which have explored diverse sounds, from the topographical ambient synth networks of I Am The Last Of That Green And Warm-Hued World (2019) to the dense technoid beat experiments of Time Makes Nothing Happen (2020), and the lush post-rock-adjacent harmonic architectures of Expressed, I Noticed Silence (2022).
Specifications SummaryExperience the expansive, collaborative soundscapes of M. Geddes Gengras on this essential vinyl release.
