Michael J. Sheehy delivers his seventh solo album, Don't We Deserve Some Kind Of Love?, his first release on the Dimple Discs label following a six-year hiatus. Known for his work with mid-'90s cult band Dream City Film Club and as the frontman for rootsy garage rock act Miraculous Mule, Sheehy brings a profound shift in perspective to this collection, exploring themes of addiction, recovery, forgiveness, love, loss, and the search for identity.
Sheehy's songwriting history is extensive, having toured with influential artists like Kristin Hersh, Tindersticks, John Cale, and Peter Murphy, with his songs featured in media such as the film 'Intimacy' and the TV show 'Deadwood'. This album marks a significant turning point, moving away from the raw, ordeal-focused writing of his past, which he notes often stemmed from periods of heavy drinking. Recorded over five years while Sheehy balanced being a stay-at-home father and working evenings in a Camden bar, this record captures a deeply personal evolution.
Key Collaborators and ContextDon't We Deserve Some Kind Of Love? features contributions from Fiona Brice (violin), Sandy Mill (backing vocals), Ian Burns (drums), and Patrick McCarthy (guitar). The sleeve notes were penned by eminent critic Pete Paphides, adding critical context to this introspective work.
