BASIC, the dynamic trio featuring Chris Forysth (guitar), Mikel Patrick Avery (percussion, drum machine, electronics), and Douglas McCombs (Fender Bass VI), delivers a new 7-track album rooted in groove-driven rock. Recorded over two days at Electrical Audio studios in Chicago and mixed with Jeff Zeigler in Philadelphia, the resulting sound is light and loose, achieving a scope much larger than a typical trio recording.
The album showcases intricate musicianship, highlighted by interlocking guitars and Avery’s distinctive approach to rhythm. Avery manipulates live acoustic percussion and electronic beats using various self-built electronic processors, adding ample detail to the soundscape. This release follows the band's debut, This Is BASIC (2024), and the subsequent Dream City EP (Spring 2025), built from the chemistry developed during extensive touring across the West Coast, Northeast, and Midwest US, including performances at festivals like Sound & Gravity and Big Ears.
Key Album HighlightsThe band members bring significant experience to this project: McCombs on Fender Bass VI, Forsyth (Solar Motel Band), and Avery (Natural Information Society) forming a powerful unit whose chemistry immediately sparked new material.
