Wimmy Road Boyz by Sufiyaan Salam

WINNER OF THE #MERKY BOOKS NEW WRITERS’ PRIZE, Wimmy Road Boyz is a blistering story of masculinity, violence, and love set over the course of a single, surreal night. This novel, hailed as a new Northern masterpiece, follows three young men on an evening of chaos and mischief on Manchester’s curry mile.

The narrative centers on three friends driving in pursuit of a wild night out:

• Immy (22): Nursing heartbreak while trying to move on by engaging with others, battling bubbling rage.
• Khan (23): A Cambridge-gangster on a mission to avenge, losing himself to old stereotypes and engaging in illegal ventures.
• Haris (23): The sensitive type, getting married next week but experiencing second thoughts and paranoia about his secrets being revealed to his friends.

This is a darkly witty story of Northern rude-bois coming of age, exploring themes of violence and love through the eyes of three boys with nothing to do and something to prove, where the night might just be their last.
