Description

On Brass brings together Vaughan Williams works performed by the award-winning Tredegar Town Band, conducted by Ian Porthouse and guest conductor Martyn Brabbins. This album of brass band music was released to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

The programme includes Vaughan Williams's three pieces for brass band: Henry the Fifth Overture, Prelude on Three Welsh Hymns and Variations for Brass Band. It also features the brass band version of the Tuba Concerto and new arrangements of popular pieces by Paul Hindmarsh and Phillip Littlemore.

Tredegar Town Band, whose history dates back to 1849, is joined by solo tuba player Ross Knight. The recording was made in Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, and engineered by Steve Portnoi.
