For over a decade, MONOLORD has delivered mass riff hypnosis through longform epics steeped in repetition, volume, and heaviness. As one of heavy music's most consistent and beloved bands, MONOLORD presents their next chapter with the album Neverending. Seeking a fresh approach to the genre, the band collaborated with legendary producer Sylvia Massy, known for her work with Tool, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash.
Album Significance and SoundNeverending feels like the culmination of 13 years of heavy, molten music, crafted with a keen eye toward creating a sharper album. Bassist Mika Häkki notes the recording process exemplified the band's camaraderie, reflecting on the intensity of their 13 years together. Guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger shares that the lyrics are more personal this time, focusing on relationships between people following major life changes, moving beyond his usual themes of religion and superstition.
Lyrical DepthThe lead single, 'You Bastard,' showcases a sharp contrast: a propulsive groove set against lyrics addressing suicide. Jäger explains the song explores both sides of suicide—the person who commits it and those left behind. The choruses represent the person left behind, expressing the difficulty of life without the departed. Furthermore, the album opener, 'Iodine,' draws inspiration from 70's rock epics such as Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Free Bird,' The Eagles' 'Hotel California,' and Led Zeppelin's 'No Quarter.'
