Zoh Amba, known for emerging from NYC’s avant-garde scene as an exciting saxophonist, delivers their Matador debut album, “Eyes Full.” This collection features tough and soulful songs that serve as a pure transmission from the heart, marking a return to Amba’s first instrument, the guitar, guided by their roots in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The music on ‘Eyes Full’ is instinctively tied to Amba’s hometown, blending muddy, loose blues with sweet burnishes of Appalachian folk. Every song explores the theme of seeing and being seen, closely examining the lives of working-class people in small towns striving for salvation. Amba states, “I hope these songs touch people’s hearts. They’re about people who really need to be seen and heard.”

The record was tracked live at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, without any overdubs. Amba is joined by best friend Kevin Hyland on electric guitar and drummer Jim White, whom Amba considers family. The trio rehearsed relentlessly, resulting in an interlocking performance where White and Amba play tightly, while Amba (on rhythm) and Hyland (on lead) weave around each other.
