Sun Ra & His Arkestra - East Two + 7 [CD]

Unreleased Material from the Archives: Sun Ra & His Arkestra

Dive into a crucial, previously unheard chapter of Sun Ra's prolific career with East Two + 7. This collection features unreleased tracks primarily sourced from the intensely productive period between 1972 and 1973, a time when Sun Ra was simultaneously recording numerous albums, touring the U.S. and Europe, teaching at Berkeley, and scoring a full-length movie.

Key Highlights from the Sessions

• 'East Two': Originating from an October 1972 session at Chicago's Streeterville Studios, this track is an ominous, sprawling processional and the only known recording of this moody work. It features Arkestra baritone saxophonist Pat Patrick on electric bass, alongside Sun Ra's idiosyncratic synth, and solos from Kwame Hadi (trumpet) and John Gilmore (tenor sax).
• 'Rocket #9' Alternate Version: This version shifts focus, featuring ensemble vocals dominated by the Space Ethnic Voices, with Ra's voice scarcely heard.
• 'In Tomorrow's Realm': Taken from 1973 Variety Studios sessions in NYC, this track highlights the essential rhythmic framework provided by veteran Arkestra bassist Ronnie Boykins, marking one of his final years working regularly with Ra.
• CD Exclusive Content: The audioCD format includes additional tracks featuring two live performances recorded in 1984 and 1985, expanding the archival scope.
