Swapmeet - Mount Zero [Vinyl]

Mount Zero, the debut LP from Australian four-piece Swapmeet, is a sweeping, guitar-driven journey that revitalizes the slowcore and alt-rock sounds of the 90s and early 2000s. Following their ethereal 2024 EP Oxalis, this album arrives after the band's signing to the LA-based label Winspear. Mount Zero captures the band coming into their own, blending airy sweetness with jagged surrealism to explore the regrets and uncertainties of young adulthood, ultimately transforming them into a burgeoning confidence.

Thematically, the tracks on Mount Zero often circle around the experiences of first loves, heartbreaks, embarrassments, and disasters. Swapmeet’s signature approach of trading instruments and sharing production duties is evident throughout the record. The band developed their sound by layering numerous tracks, meticulously refining each song until a clear shape emerged. The result is a powerful collection that encapsulates the intensity of personal change under pressure, serving as a tribute to paths not taken and an ode to the future.
