Description
Terms of Surrender is an album by Durham-based songwriter and bandleader M.C. Taylor, performing as Hiss Golden Messenger. It’s for listeners drawn to searching, emotionally open songs shaped by American roots music.
Across ten selected songs, Taylor explores parenthood, joy, hope and loneliness against a backdrop of acoustic guitar, mandolin, steel guitar, organ and electric piano. The album follows a difficult year and traces a journey towards healing, with regular collaborators Phil and Brad Cook, Josh Kaufman and Matt McCaughan, alongside Jenny Lewis and Aaron Dessner.
Standout songs include “I Need a Teacher”, “Cat’s Eye Blue” and “Happy Birthday, Baby”.
