Clarinettist Peter Cigleris presents a compelling collection of British concertante works for clarinet and strings, featuring two world-premiere recordings alongside the justly beloved Clarinet Concerto by Gerald Finzi. This album showcases masterly writing from the late 1940s, bound together by the influence of eminent English clarinettist Frederick Thurston (1901-1953).
For this release, Cigleris is accompanied by the luminous strings of the London Mozart Players, led by conductor John Andrews. The program highlights the original chamber version of Denis ApIvor's Concertante for clarinet, piano, and percussion.
