Ghost Dubs - Damaged [CD]

Ghost Dubs, the alias of Michael Fiedler, also known as Jah Schulz, presents 'Damaged,' his debut album on The Bug's PRESSURE label. Following his critically acclaimed experimental dub LPs, the German producer and bass specialist expands his sonic boundaries with twelve new explorations of dub deviance. This album is a significant evolution for those who believed the fusion of dub techno and ambient drone had reached its creative peak with the defunct Chain Reaction label. Ghost Dubs revitalizes and deepens this legendary blueprint, creating a mesmerizing soundscape characterized by a warm sea of hiss and static.

'Damaged' offers a unique auditory experience where electronic precision meets organic warmth. The music is described as so atomized it disintegrates upon listening, with machines taking the forefront and human traces seemingly erased. Yet, Fiedler's 'robo riddims' exude a captivating soulfulness. The album is relentlessly hypnotic and sedated, celebrating departure points within its mesmeric low-end grooves.

Standout Tracks:

• The album opener, 'Chemical,' delivers an opiated, slow-motion skank reminiscent of Plastikman's 'Consumed' era, heavily infused with sub-aquatic effects. It serves as a perfect introduction to the album's immersive quality, balancing surface noise with sub-woofer testing intensity.
• The lead single, 'Thin Line,' bridges the gap between African Headcharge's percussive explorations and Rhythm & Sound's addictive radiance, with subtle undertones of Burial's romantic hauntology.

For fans of deep bass and atmospheric journeys, 'Damaged' provides immense thrills with its massive, Richter scale-tremor rhythms and tantalizingly oceanic depths. The album masterfully balances bewitching ambience with heavyweight basslines, making it a compelling listen for both headtrippers and body shakers alike.
