For the best part of the last decade, Dumfries-born, Glasgow-raised Liam Shortall AKA corto.alto has been in his home studio in the Southside of the Scottish city, cooking up frenetic improvisations, diligently wonky productions and genre-spanning compositions with a close-knit group of local collaborators. Now signed to Ninja Tune, the multi-instrumentalist producer, composer and performer announces “SOME SMALL FORTUNE”, which finds Shortall at his most expansive and unpredictably exciting, working with his widest range of features to date.

This release showcases collaborations with notable artists such as Mick Jenkins, Vector, anaiis, Oscar Jerome, Jacob Alon (Brit Award winner), BINA., Terra Kin, and Eriff. Shortall is also joined by his longtime Glaswegian band, including drummer Graham Costello, Mercury Prize nominated Fergus McCreadie, and saxophonist Mateusz Sobieski. The album is a rich tapestry of electronic, classical, pop, and indie influences, extending far beyond the confines of its meticulous making.

Following the success of his previous album, “Bad with Names,” which earned corto.alto his first Mercury Prize nomination in 2024 and achieved significant chart positions in the UK, including #4 on the Jazz & Blues Albums Chart, this new offering is set to captivate jazz enthusiasts and beyond. corto.alto's talent was further recognized with the Breakthrough Artist award at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2025.
